This is a book with a lot of Amish lore and basic history about the Amish. I live in Amish country now and grew up near Amish country so this is "old hat" to me. But if this is a new world of people and history and customs, the book is enjoyable for the short descriptions and autobiographical stories.The recipes are fairly authentic as I see people cook around here that I know but...they are a lot of "open a can of mushroom soup" and more or less founded on the principle of stretching noodles and beef with sauces to make rib-sticking farmer's meals. The famous breakfast casserole (a sort of savory bread and bulk sausage pudding) that we all love at our local Amish restaurant is in the book. It's pretty easy and variants of this are useful for brunch parties, sleepovers and guests when you have to serve a crowd. And there is an "inexpensive" fruitcake recipe making two hearty loaves that is based on a very old boiled raisin cake that has no eggs and used to be made with any fat that was at hand (dripping, lard, bacon fat, butter.) It is sometimes called "War Cake" as it can be made with any grade of flour--this is a variant with chopped candied fruit and nuts to make it up like a Christmas cake.Spaghetti sauce involves hamburger and a big lashing of tomato juice. Lots of cheesy, potato casseroles.There are a few gems, homemade bread, Friendship (sour dough) bread, summer sausage, and the mashed potatoes people make around here (using cream cheese for the butter) but most of the recipes are things you can find in Betty Crocker or other standard ladies auxiliary type cook books.
I became aware of Elizabeth Coblentz after moving to Indiana in 1999. I used to write my Aunt weekly and include Elizabeth's newspaper article with my letter. She loved them as well. I was so glad to see Kevin Williams, Elizabeth's editor, had a cookbook published about Elizabeth and including her recipes. Elizabeth's articles were a personal glimpse into a quieter and more peaceful life, like stepping back in time. I admire the strength and peace of that lifestyle. I will enjoy making many of these recipes too, as I now try to avoid prepared (boxed, mixes and manufactured) foods as much as possible.
I was looking for authentic recipes, made entirely from scratch.. These are good but I'm disappointed to see store bought ingredients.. I like the anecdotes that go with it..
One of my all-time favorite books. I loved recipes and the wonderful stories of her beloved family. I have been reading weekly The Amish Cook in my newspaper. IT was a pleasant surprise that this was HER book. I also liked learning about Amish customs. Can't say enough about this book. Loved it.
I never thought I could become so emotionally moved by a cookbook...shed tears at the end...beautiful book...a keeper.
I grew up in Pennsylvania and this book reminds me of a simpler time. The recipes are some I grew up eating, like fried mush, so reading this brings back memories of my family sitting down to dinner every night. Very comforting book to curl up and read.
I have most of these books. I've tried several of the decks and enjoyed the process. I love the baking sections and all the commentary on Amish life.

I have been an avid fan of Bob Hannah since I was a flagman at the first Southwick, MA national motocross in 1976. I had read about his debute in the Florida Winter series and read the coverage of his upset victory in the 125 national round at Hangtown. Being on the track and seeing him in action even though he did not win showed me a level of determination and courage I had never see in the 3 years I had worked at Southwick and saw top New England experts in action including Jimmy Ellis prior to actively racing the national. Bob would be one of a few select that even to this day I would stand in line for hours for an autograph from.The book was everything I expected and more. The input from friends, his mechanics, the photos of Bob in action over a 13 year career made for informative and entertaining reading.

This book is a must have for any motocross fan. Its an exceptional value with great photography and an inside view from a friend of Bob Hannah"s. I recommend this to all motorcycle enthusiast's. Great job Tom Madigan!
Bob Hannah is one of the most famous motocross racers in the world, he beat the europeans at their own game (Roger DeCoster to be more specific) when no other Americans could, and got the ball rolling for the American dominance that we still enjoy to this day. Very outspoken and a tough as nails competitor with a hang on till the end style, he would do whatever it took to win. This book follows him from childhood riding the deserts, all the way to his plane business and beyond, if you're even the slightest motocross fan, you'll want to check this book out, the photograghs are awsome, and I like the way it is written. Very informative, and if you lived through those Golden years of MX, this has a lot of nostalgia also.

About the Author
Gillian Gloyer studied ancient languages at Wadham College, Oxford. After university, she spent most of her professional career overseas, working in Spain, Chile, Belgium and Bosnia before finding herself, slightly by accident, in Albania. She lived in Tirana for four years, directing a long-term, multi-party training programme. Her training schedule took her all over the country and gave her the chance to discover Albania's astonishingly rich history and culture, then almost unknown outside the country. She learned the language and now speaks it well. Gillian is now based in Edinburgh, but she visits Albania at least once a year, for both work and pleasure. Albania is a beautiful country and this is one of very few guides to the country. It is rather incomplete and some of the information is dated but it is about the best resource out there on this largely unexplored county.Albania is beautiful and the people are friendly but the country lacks the infrastructure needed for most tourism. There is no passenger trains into the country. Public water is not safe. Electricity is unreliable. You won't find any of the multinational fast food chains there (or multinational anything). The drivers appear to follow no particular traffic etiquette. But it is a beautiful, historical country with unbelievable archeological sites.
If you want to travel around Albania and do more than just hit the few most visited highlights, this is no doubt the book to take.It is the only English-language guide devoted to Albania alone, and it offers a good coverage of the places and things to see, fairly up to date details of transport and accomodation options, decent maps of both regions and individual towns or cities, as well as well-written background information on culture and history. All the stuff you would expect from good practical guidebooks like the better-known Lonely Planet series (whose coverage of Albania is dismal!).It is also fairly balanced in covering both budget and upmarket places to stay, something other books often fail at.So why only 4 stars?Well, some of the maps would need to be more accurate - they sometimes showed places on the wrong street or corner. Also, in a few cases, practical details were missing, with the existence of accomodation being mentioned, but not the usual details on how much it cost. Same goes for transport info.Finally, and most mystifyingly, the author has chosen to use non-standard place names ("definite", conjugated forms) even though she herself admits this form is not what you will see in Albania on maps, destination signs of buses or road-signs!However these shortcomings are well outweighed by all the useful info in the book. If you are planning to tour this little-visited country independently, don't leave home without a copy!
Gloyer's book inspired my trip to Albania, and it was useful every step of the way.She offers tips on how to get through the airport without hassles, which hotels are worth booking, and what to see in just about every part of Albania a tourist might go to. Her writing style is well beyond the norm for travel guides, without a hint of the Weltschmerz that afflicts so many travel writers. She has a sly sense of humor, and will even boldly tell you to avoid a hotel run by the local mafia. Also, there aren't many travel guides that include tips on how to help alleviate poverty and suffering in the country being visited, but Ms Gloyer thoughtfully includes such information. She obviously loves the country and is very fond of its people, and it's quite a gift to Albania to have such an honest and worthwhile travel guide available in English.
Although a bit superficial, it does hit the highlights as you travel around Albania. Besides none of the other major guidebook series have books on this country, so it is the best by default.
Great source for info in planning my trip!! Not much out there on Albania, and they managed to find a lot!! Bradt guides usually are the best!
This book offers excellent information on a country not often visited. Description of sights and places to visit are very helpful as are the maps of the individual regions. Great pictures to tweek your interest.
You might think no one writes books about Albania. That is why it is important to read the ones that there are.
The guide has lots of side stories about history and people. However, the maps are very basic and show things in the wrong locations. Don't depend on the transportation information since most of it had changed since publishing. I ended up getting stuck since some of the bus connections it mentioned don't exist.

Dean Movshovitz is a screenwriter and author, known for his #1 Amazon bestseller Pixar Storytelling: Rules for Effective Storytelling Based on Pixar's Greatest Films. Born in Israel, Dean served in the IDF for 5 years before getting a BA in Screenwriting at Tel Aviv University. After his studies Dean served as Director of Film and Media at Israel's Office for Cultural Affairs in North America, based in New York, where he promoted Israeli Cinema. When I first bought this book in June 2016, I expected some great, unique insights from someone who'd worked with Pixar, and perhaps some wonderful color illustrations from Pixar films, highlighting how they craft their stories.When the book arrived, I saw that neither were true.Sure, that version of the book read like a good, undergraduate thesis. It highlighted several classic storytelling (and screenwriting) tropes and plot construction methods, with lengthy, scene-by-scene examples from almost every Pixar hit film, ever.But like another reviewer, I thought this was good information, but amateurishly presented.The "rules" were solid, familiar points I've read over & over again in excellent books by Jeffrey Alan Schechter, Blake Snyder, Shawn Coyne, Larry Brooks, and others.And, as a Pixar and Disney fan, I was kind of appalled that the book's title and thumbnail cover image (with the Pixar-ish desk lamp) suggested that the author has some connection with Pixar. It's why I bought this book.He didn't.My previous review - of the first version of this book - was a dismal two stars. And even that seemed a little too generous.Since then, the author completely revised his book. He also sent me a review copy, with no strings attached. He simply asked me to read it and see if it changed my mind.It did, once I actually read it. (The Pixar-ish cover still put me off. I'm a busy person; I don't have time to revisit books that disappointed me the first time.)Yesterday, I decided to cross it off my to-read list before starting 2018, fresh. (Honestly, that's the only reason I started reading it.)I'm glad I did. This edition IS a worthwhile read.This new edition focuses on the elements that can spark a brilliant and endearing story, whether you're an author or a screenwriter, or involved in any kind of storytelling.It's nicely and systematically presented. Within just a few pages, I could see what the author had tried to present in the first version of this book, but - in that edition - he'd missed the mark, badly.Now he clearly explains the deep-seated dilemmas that can make any story unique. He delves deep into the internal and external conflicts in several classic Pixar films, and presents the reader with examples that do NOT require you to see every film he references.Also, his evocative writing makes it easy to connect-the-dots between his advice and your current creative projects, even if they're only vague concepts at this point.I'm glad I read this book, and I can recommend it to others. My only hesitation - and why I'm giving it four stars - is the price. (It's US$19 as I'm writing this.) It's NOT that the information isn't worth the money. In fact, I think it's good value for anyone who actually reads the book and applies what author Movshovitz shares.But, the perceived value of a 6"x9" book (113 pages long) may trigger misgivings among some readers, from the moment they open the Amazon shipment and see this book. I think $12.95 would be about right, and $9.95 would make it seem like a great, rave-review purchase.In other words, I wouldn't want a reader to open the cover and start reading, harboring a "this had better be worth it" attitude. That's not the in-flow state of mind that will make the most of the creative sparks in this book.Aside from that, I applaud the author for radically revising this book - both contents and presentation - to make it a valuable addition to any storyteller's reference library.If you're telling original stories, or want to improve the emotional content and tension in any story (fiction or nonfiction), I recommend this book.
Do not buy the kindle edition of this book. This book will not open on my Kindle Paperwhite or my phone. This will only open on my laptop and Kindle Fire. It is very inconvenient to read on my Kindle Fire, and it is like reading a PDF document on my laptop. You cannot take advantage of the vocabulary builder. You cannot change the font size. It does not show the percent complete in the chapter or book. The table of contents does not have any links. I did find a few typos that I could not report to Amazon.When you get past the really bad formatting, the context of this book is good. The author breaks down Pixar story telling into 10 different subjects. Some of the subjects are choosing an idea, creating empathy, and creating drama/conflict. He even has a message for Aspiring Artist. He uses examples of all of the Pixar films from Toy Story to Inside Out. This book does give me a different perspective on Pixar’s movies, and TED talks, and Toastmaster’s speeches.The kindle version of this book is very bad, and does take advantage of many of the kindle features. You will find the context of this book good if you do not mind reading this book on your laptop. The publisher really needs to fix the kindle version of this book, or amazon needs to lower the price.
I love this book. I bought the kindle book and could not stop reading it. I typically take weeks and even months to finish a book but this one took me only a week. I took notes and it motivated me to write my own book. Highly recommended.
Loved to hear the insight behind some of the stories and how they came about. It didn't give me a whole lot of help with my writing, which is why I bought the book. So if you're trying to learn more about how to write stories, I'd give this one a pass.

Warrior of the Wild is Tricia's standalone novel that follows Rasmira, the only female warrior in her village and when she's betrayed by people she thought she knew, she finds herself outcast from her village with an impossible task set before, she should want to seek redemption. This was a fast paced story filled with adventure, surprises galore, and MONSTERS!Rasmira is the only female warrior in her village and she's been trained to follower in her father's, the leader of the village, footsteps. But when she and the other warrior trainees take their final test to prove themselves, Rasmira finds out she has been betrayed by the people she thought she knew. It's not long into the story when we find Rasmira being outcast into the wilds. She's give an impossible task known as a mattugr that basically sets her up for failure in its impossibility. The task? To kill the god that has been terrorizing their villages for years.I was quite surprised that once Rasmira is on her way to her seclusion in the wilds that she encounters two other outcast teens. At the same time, I was actually hoping for something like this to happen because I couldn't imagine reading a 300+ page book about a heroine who didn't get to interact with anyone other than monsters and the god she is tasked with killing. She meets Soren and Irik, two boys who failed their final tests and have their own impossible mattugrs ahead of them. While Rasmira is loathed to let herself trust again, she finds herself doing just that with these boys. They discover that if they have any hope of returning to their homes, they will have to learn to work together.I quite enjoyed Rasmira's interactions with Soren and Irik! And never fear, there is no love triangle here as Irik is already spoken for! But that leaves Soren up for grabs! Soren is the first to "fall," yet Rasmira isn't about to let her heart get broken again and constantly shuts down Soren's attempts. It was rather realistic to see Rasmira being unwilling to trust Soren whatsoever. The way that she was betrayed would definitely leave its scars on you and trusting again wouldn't be easy. But as you can imagine, that begins to change, ever so slowly, over the course of the novel.I really enjoyed Rasmira's character. She wasn't perfect, she had her flaws, but I really liked that she began to learn that about herself and slowly change (in the right ways) to become a better person. She wasn't horrible mind you, but there were little things that get pointed out to her eventually and though it's never stated, you can clearly see her trying to be better.The ending was quite amazing! I loved everything that led up to it and then the grand finale itself! The story leaves us in the perfect place too! It's the way I prefer my series (and standalones) to end! Warrior of the Wild has a lot going for it! It's action packed, there's MONSTERS, seriously scary and deadly monsters, romance, humor, shocking surprises, and growth from lessons learned. It was thought provoking in a roundabout way.There were only a few minor things that bugged me about this. Nothing too extreme, but I feel like I can't say with confidence that it was a flawless read. Sure there were times when I didn't agree with Rasmira's choices, but I feel like that's typical of any book because if she made the choices I wanted her to go for, there wouldn't be a story! Lol. Perhaps I just needed more to the story as well. Just the simple MORE. I think if there was just a little something more to it I would be all over giving this one five stars. It's still a tremendously worthy story that I still highly recommend! It's definitely different from my usual fantasy reads and I really loved the warrior woman vibe it had going! This is a story not to be missed!Overall Rating 4/5 stars
I love Norse Mythology. Well, I love mythology period. I`m a complete sucker for mythology. I enjoy learning what civilizations past, and even people now, turned to when they needed something, anything to believe in. I hopped onto this story after discovering Levenseller through Owlcrate with her Daughter of the Pirate King duology. I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting. I was up until about 3 am I believe.*First off, I have so many little flags of quotes that got me and will be added to my quote book soon. This book, like her others, was full of a self determined and self believing female MC who proves she can break the mold and challenge the way of things. I also enjoyed the difference of the 2 gods. Primarily, one that lives and terrifies the people and one who watches over and embraces her people in warmth.***Also, beware of Torrin...***Also, I want that metal/those rocks***READ IT!!!! AND HER OTHER BOOKS!!!
This book is one full of adventure and "romance" and redemption.Rasmira is banished to the wild after betrayal on multiple fronts. Through her harrowing journey, she makes friends, learns what it means to be a leader, and learns about forgiveness.The romance is definitely YA, well, YA as I wish it would be (making out but no sex). The relationship builds slowly and realistically.Rasmira learns how to be a leader by helping others on their quests. She realizes what true leadership looks like and earns the respect of her fellows.She also learns about forgiveness, as her fellow banished struggle with resentment toward one another.In the end, not everything is perfect (because that's not how real life works), but there is hope for the future.Quick and engaging read. I really enjoyed it.
THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED IT TO BE.Oh my goodness. The book is beautiful to begin with. The story was easy to fall into and the characters are my new besties. I want to be a warrior like Raz. She is awesome and her arc was exactly what I wanted it to be. And Soren. Oh I love him. The setting was easy to follow and the monsters were fantastic. Just everything was wonderful.
This was such an amazing story. One I just could not put down. I am left wanting more wanting the story to continue on! It is so rewarding to have these kick ass women standing up for themselves and kicking butt. I don't think I can read stories any more if the women is portrayed helpless.
I loved this book so much! I love her writing style and strongly recommend if you love this to check out her other books! I loved those as well. I couldn't get enough of this book I didn't want it to end! Just wanted to continue the story as much as I can! Look forward to reading anything by this amazing author!

Let me start off by saying I NEVER write reviews for products I purchase despite how much I rely on them to make sounds purchases online. If you make the decision to buy this book even after reading this review, expect to see pages full of the same basic concepts repeated over, and over, and over again, littered with grammatical errors that rival the writing skills of a junior high schooler (no offense to any junior high school student lol). The content is so bland and lacks detail and scientific backing. To be quite honest, this entire book with the little valuable information it contains, could be cut down to a travel sized pamphlet you'd see at a gas station or a tourist/visitor's welcome center. Do yourself a favor and buy another book that's SPECIFICALLY written about the cultivation of marijuana to get a solid foundation on how the plant grows from seed to harvest. Then, if you so desire to attempt an aquaponic setup for you newly developed hobby, purchase a book SPECIFICALLY in the subject of aquaponic gardening/horticulture. I thought this book was going to beneficial at trying to capture both topics in one, and was sorely mistaken. Good luck with your journey on homegrown medicine, and don't forget to vote for legal cannabis use and personal cultivation. END PROHIBITION!!! Shout out DGC!!!
I really enjoy DIY related books and this one was definitely a solid helper. The author explains the Aquaponics method with great clarity and I love this method because theirs not a lot o mess and the clean up is easy. If you are looking for new at-home way to grew your weed, I'd definitely look into this guide.
I had never heard of this growing method before, but the author lays out what you need to know in easy-to-understand steps and at a low cost. Really made me excited to try this myself. Seems like a lot less mess & better results!

This is a great manual for all home growers, this book outlines step by step process that is easy to follow and enjoy a great result. I know and have tried this method and I agree with the author that this is not a fast growing method, it takes time to harvest your crops but the quality is truly amazing.

It is all about potency when it comes to growing the good stuff. The author makes a valid claim that by using the aquaponics method the potency and the concentration of THC are always consistent which is a great selling point in my opinion. After reading this book, I did some online research on my own and found some validity to his claims due to the constant supply of good nutrition, most plants produce greater fruits than when they are grown on soil. I must say, I am surprised that no one else has written about it yet. This a must read for all home growers.
This is one well- researched book, I am sure he has gone through the process to be able to write in such details. But the only reason I gave this book a 4 star when it truly deserves a 5 star, I was hoping to see a full image or two of his own aquaponics setup, which he didn't share, Though, he shared some stock images but not his own, all in all an excellent book on this type of growing method. Â
