Very inspiring. Some of the challenges Diana Nyad went through to achieve her dream were unbelievable! What a warrior woman. From her childhood, where sexual abuse turned her into an overachiever, to her mid-sixties, where she has one more chance to achieve her lifelong dream, Nyad inspires, yet she's very human. She is introspective, suffers emotionally, wonders about herself, but in the end, gets on with it.This is a story not just of super-human athletic accomplishment, but also of rebirth at an age when conventional culture writes you off. For example, Nyad reflects on how she feels in her sixties as opposed to forty years earlier: "I'm not as sensitive or delicate emotionally, either, so I suppose the mental calm and perspective that comes with age contributes to being more robust in this new incarnation of my athletic self...In my sixties, I am far more patient, with myself and my crew..."Nyad also talks about the fact that she is atheistic, disliking the slogan, "It was meant to be." She says, "I learned through my own life's journey that one makes oneself a champion...(if 'it was meant to be'), then where is hope? Where does will come in? Where is the inspiration to change and better oneself?" I enjoyed her story, and felt inspired and motivated after reading it.

The bizarre conditions of the sport of open water ocean swimming allows only to provide and protect, but not assist her swim or float in any way, She is adrift for over two days surrounded by a flotilla of boats and staff that can only help guide, manage and protect her.What is perhaps as remarkable as breaking the record was that she accomplished what many thought impossible on her fifth attempt at the age of 64. Sharks could be scared away but swarms of deadly box jellyfish were unpredictable and impossible to avoid. This is the final novel in the Way of the Shaman series. According to the author and the company that publishes them in english, there will be more stories set in Barliona, but that will come after the author finishes some other projects.This novel however, is a rollercoaster ride of plot twists and story development. To me, book 6 in the series capped off the series wonderfully with a happily ever after kind of ending. Sure, there were some unfinished story threads but overall it was a good ending. It was a lot like the scripted ending of a favorite RPG game.Book 7 is the downloadable DLC that changes that ending and gives you one last crazy adventure with the characters you love. There are so many new big quests, revelations, Mahan finally uses that spider eye he got in book 1, and more that an invasion from a rival continent is the smallest event in the story.Overall, I had a good time with the story. There’s some not entirely justifiable twists both in game and IRL but it’s an interesting last ride with my favorite shaman.Score: 7 out of 10
Good author, but this book not as good as 1-6. Too disjointed, too many plot reversals unsupported by story. Entire plot was shifted 180 degrees at the end by 3 pages of exposition from some character you never met before, explaining what all had reallllly happened, all behind the scenes that you never read anything about in the story. Then 5 pages later, another complete reversal is laid down by some more narrative exposition. I like the author and want to support him writing more, but he needs to stop with so many plots, and trying to have a big reversal reveal at the end... just tell a good simpler story about characters, which he is good at.
A good book. Mahan is a lot less idealistic in this book, after having been freed from his enforced immersion.After having the Creators Tomb manoeuvred away from him by Ehkiller from Phoenix, Mahan, Plinto and Anastaria become involved with the Shadow Empire. Mix this in amongst a major tournament where Plinto and Mahan are enrolled in the PVP, 2 on 2 bouts.All of this occurs naturally after a new Update to Barliona, and Mahan must relearn his old Shaman skills, deal with NPC’s that he knows having suffered permanent death, and being involved in the biggest quest there is. Oh, and to top it off, they become enemy number 1, 2, & 3, for the entire world of Barliona, other continents included.Unfortunately the book ends a bit abruptly, leaving us with the knowledge that there are more books in the series yet to be translated to English.
I love this series and I love the characters that are so interesting and unique. This book is much like the last 6 (or 7 the hour of pain anyone?). This book will not be for everyone as much of it is new set ups and quests rather than the completion of old stuff with some unique twists. The ending was exceedingly unexpected. I liked the book but the previous was probably a more satisfying end for most people. If you were unsatisfied with the ending of the previous book this book will be for you.
My only complaint is that there are just too many twists and turns, it begins to become implausible even in this already not too beleivable world he's created. I'd rather the next book get a little more back to the basics. When was the last time Mahan crafted anything? Certainly not in this book. Also if you read this Mr Mahanenko, could you please finish Start the game.
*Bangs head against the wall for a minute...or two* WOW...ok where to begin so many twists and plots within schemes within intrigues. Fun book 2 days and a sleepless night but it was WORTH every moment. Loved the book ready for 8...keep writing and I’ll keep reading!!!
fan of the series in general, but I thought It started going down hill after the betrayal. This is by far the worst of the series and gas a couple continuity errors with book 6. Also it stops being a believable story, I was such a fan of the first couple books, didn t mind the middle, and didn t mind reading this becuase I'm committed, but this was a bad poorly crafted book that gets farther and farther from the believable story from which it began

I want to be clear that I'm coming from a strict engineering (electrical/computer) background so I am somewhat biased toward a more thorough mathematical treatment of concepts ...Although this text is very comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics relating to computers: software, hardware, networking; the depth is very lacking. To make matters worse, I find some of the information presented to be somewhat misleading or at least lacking detail to the point of leaving out some key concepts. I have been able to squeeze a little bit of useful information from this text in an area or two in which I was not very familiar; however, I think it would be helpful for readers to know that the majority of the concepts presented in this text are learned by the majority of technically inclined people throughout high school and a technical undergraduate education (without the aid of a course and/or text that presents this material formally). Any supporting information necessary beyond that can be easily obtained online.
This book gives a good overview of computer architecture however its on the IT level. If you want more detail on the Compute Science level with math equations this isn't the book. You will learn a good deal of system internals
Well, the book is in black and white. Not even spot color but black and white. For some diagrams that's okay but others it's absolutely ridiculous. Especially if you read the book on multiple devices and some screens are smaller. You can't make out some of the diagrams because you cannot tell what is pointing to where. Some of the diagrams on peripherals - mainly storage - were useless because it was all a mess of grey with pointers that just kinda blended into a mess of lines and labels.No attempt at all to use the additional space in the margins for important keywords, topics etc. Stop shoving everything to the back of the chapters and listing "keywords." We're not typesetting like it's the 80's. When you bold a word in a paragraph, call it out in the margins too! Do you have any idea how much easier this makes studying? Some publishers manage to do this. Why can't others? And color - it's an additional cost yes, but you're charging a fortune! What are you using it on? Seriously! It's not color/spot color and it's not formatting!It's hilarious that we have to take HCI and TechComm but almost all the books we read fail the principles we learn in these classes.And last: no additional web materials or resources. This is not the first time I've come across this since starting my program but it is approaching ridiculous. Two books priced almost $160 or more and absolutely no additional materials to speak of. Please guys, you need to make an effort. How hard is it to create some practice quizzes, flash cards? Etc?
