Review
"Corey deftly weaves multiple points of view to create a dense and colorful tapestry of political intrigue, personal relationships, and sophisticated technology that bursts with action but also delivers an introspective view of the characters as they age and reflect on their purpose and the value of their lives."―Booklist (starred review)"A standout tale of violence, intrigue, ambition, and hope. ... Corey cranks up the tension relentlessly in this fast-paced story of heroes and rebels fighting for freedom. With enough thrills and intrigue for three Hollywood blockbusters, the novel stands alone nicely, making it easy for new readers as well as diehard series fans to dive right in." ―Publishers Weekly on Nemesis Games"The science fictional equivalent of A Song of Ice and Fire...only with fewer beheadings and way more spaceships."―NPR Books on Cibola Burn"Combining an exploration of real human frailties with big SF ideas and exciting thriller action, Corey cements the series as must-read space opera."―Library Journal (starred review) on Cibola Burn"The Expanse series is the best space opera series running at full tilt right now, and Cibola Burn continues that streak of excellence."―io9 on Cibola Burn"Corey's splendid fourth Expanse novel blends adventure with uncommon decency."―Publishers Weekly (starred review) on Cibola Burn"A politically complex and pulse-pounding page-turner.... Corey perfectly balances character development with action... series fans will find this installment the best yet."―Publishers Weekly on Abaddon's Gate"It's been too long since we've had a really kickass space opera. Leviathan Wakes is interplanetary adventure the way it ought to be written, the kind of SF that made me fall in love with the genre way back when, seasoned with a dollop of horror and a dash of noir. Jimmy Corey writes with the energy of a brash newcomer and the polish of a seasoned pro. So where's the second book?"―George R. R. Martin on Leviathan Wakes"An excellent space operatic debut in the grand tradition of Peter F. Hamilton."―Charles Stross on Leviathan Wakes"High adventure equaling the best space opera has to offer, cutting-edge technology, and a group of unforgettable characters bring the third installment of Corey's epic space drama (after Caliban's War and Leviathan Wakes) to an action-filled close while leaving room for more stories to unfold. Perhaps one of the best tales the genre has yet to produce, this superb collaboration between fantasy authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck should reawaken an interest in old-fashioned storytelling and cinematic pacing. Highly recommended."―Library Journal (starred review) on Abaddon's Gate

I just finished Tiamat's Wrath and gave it 5 stars. I never give anything 5 stars, and maybe after I detox I'll want to drop it back to 4 stars, but really, it was great. Writing, characters, plot, sciencey stuff, galactic politics. All really well done. Thoughtful but accessible, not a combination we often get in SF.Also, not the place to start the series or even this three-book arc.Like Nemesis Games, this is a story where the crew of the Roci are all off doing separate things, which is how we left it at the end of the previous book, Persopolis Rising. If you read that, then you'll remember that the black fleet that disappeared through the ring gates early on has come back with newer bigger ships and rolled Empire all over the 1300 worlds humans have access to. Naomi, Alex, Amos, and Bobbi are all back in the underground game, and Holden is prisoner to High Consul Duart, man who would be emperor, or as Jim puts it, his "Dancing Bear."Bobbi and Alex are off running another captured ship, the Gathering Storm, which they took away from the Laconian Imperial fleet at the end of the last book, and Naomi is doing deep thinking and strategizing for the new resistance while hiding out in an elaborate shell game of cargo containers and shipping vessels. Amos went off on a high-risk mission to get Jim back and has gone dark, and Jim's wandering around chatting up the emperor, the mad scientist that's been cooking proto-molecule since book 1, and Teresa, the girl who stands to inherit the empire if her now proto-molecule-immortal father ever falls. Meanwhile, Duarte has scientists (played by our old friends from Cibola Burn, Elvi, and Fayez) off looking for a solar system empty enough that he can do something to poke the bear on the other side of the ring, the one that makes ships disappear if too many go through too often. What could go wrong? As Holden says, "...the problem with thousand-year Reichs. they come and go like fireflies."I haven't liked all the Expanse novels equally, and the previous one made me worried that the series would end on a whimper rather than a bang, but Tiamat's Wrath makes me think that it's going to be something to remember.Ernest LilleySFRevu - Editor Emeritus
I am sure I will love the book as I have the prior books and I have looked forward to this for months! I purchased the audible and kindle version as quick as I could today. My one disappointment is that whispersync features that allows syncing of your position between the Kindle version and the audible version is not enabled. Is this planned to be enabled soon? This technical issue reduces enjoyment of books for me and I hope it can be added soon.
4 words in and I hate the authors.
From start to finish I was immersed in the story it was like I was there with the characters. I only wish the next book was available.
How could an invincible empire fall? A really cool next volume that sets things up for the ultimate novel. Some sadness, some joy, but that’s life.
So nice to be back in the Expanse world. Excellent plot and pacing. Next to last book in the series.
I will update my review when finished. But right as soon as the book starts I'm hooked, alot going on, I'm soaking it all up. Refreshing to hear a main character at the start!
