I'm the music editor of the Mudcat Cafe folk music forum online, and I worked for a year on Rise Again as a volunteer associate editor. I'm very proud of how this book turned out, and I hope you like it. This is a worthy second volume to Rise Up Singing: The Group Singing Songbook (15th Anniversary Edition) published by the same editors in 1988. There are 1200 additional songs in this book - no duplications of songs that were in the first volume. I researched every darn song in the book, and came across one last duplicate song just two weeks before the book went to press - the editors replaced it. The format is very similar to the earlier book, but I think the typeface is easier to read.

I don't review often, but This book has been a long time coming and, I think it is just fantastic. I found Rise up Singing years ago when I was learning to play guitar. There were so many songs, from all styles of music, mostly common chords. This book is the same way with lots of modern music also, Adele, Coldplay, Dar Williams, Dolly Parton, The Beatles, Showtunes, Motown. Love this book!! If you are just learning or an accomplished player this book and its predecessor, are must own books

I've used "Rise up Singing" for many years and this book is a worthy successor. As it's name and appearance suggest, the book uses the same format as the older book. Even though the Internet can provide words, basic and tabs to practically any song, I like this book, and not just because I'm nostalgic. The Rise Again Songbook presents a curated list of songs in compact form under handy categories. Browsing through the lists makes me want to grab my guitar on practically every page. I can skip or skim categories I'm not interested in. The Internet can do most of that, but I like the book's editorial sensibilities, which are similar to the original book. The result is a wonderful song list. I have spent an hour looking through the book so far, and I'm just 30 pages in. I'm looking forward to paging through the whole thing.

I love these books. Rise Up Singing is my goto book when I want to drag out the guitar and sing for awhile. Now I have all kinds of new choices. I have to say that there are more songs that I'm not familiar with in Rise Again, but I imagine I'll be looking them up and listening so I can be playing them. The layout is great. The songs are sorted by theme (sort of). I would probably put some in different categories, but that's just personal opinion. Anyway, great fun if you love to sing and revisit old friends (or songs).

Love the song selection. There were a lot of my old favs but a bunch of songs I didn't know as well. Look forward to learning them. The formatting was very good but some places needed better edited - very very few though. My eyes are aging faster than me, so it would be nice to be able to get a larger print version. Although that might turn this into vol1 and vol2 then. Spiral is smooth so the pages turn easily.

Good follow on to the first book, which I purchased over 20 years ago for summer camp jam sessions. This one continues that tradition, overall a good selection of older songs mixed with more contemporary ones.

You will LOVE this book. Order a copy for each of your friends, pull that old guitar or ukulele out of the closet, or dust off the piano, then invite everyone over, and sing. Nobody will want to go home. Do this once a week for a year, averaging 23 new songs a night, and you will have worked your way through this incredible collection of great songs. Congratulations to everyone who participated in pulling this together.

So many great songs. I bought this book as its being used in a song circle I attend regularly. My biggest peeve is the way the lyrics are structured. So confusing and hard to follow. I realize it's that way to utilize space in order to get all these songs in the book.... but still. It is a great book however for the content of the songs. Has popular to some of the more obscure.
