I was quite amazed at all the information that is in this book. Being a grandmother and having ordered this book for my son and his wife for their toddler, I thought it going to be one of those books where the child is coddled and spoiled. I was to wrong!Very good information and some that I didn't even know about. I read it from front to back and was very impressed with the content of the book.For a starting out family with their first child, it is a must have for their bookshelf. They will get good use out of it and help them in forming and bonding with their child. It covers all aspects of the first few years and then some on what to expect and gives suggestions on how to handle it.
It was not the same layout as the "What to expect the first year" book. I wanted something that went month-by-month, this one lumped all the developments into categories such as eating, sleeping, playing, stranger anxiety, tantrums, etc. In the beginning of the book they do a short overview of what to expect during the year by month, but not whole chapters on it. The categories are vague and I am not really sure what parts of them apply to children that are under 18 months, and those that are over 18 months. For this reason, I gave it a 3 star
I was reluctant to purchase this book because I was so set in the month-by-month structure that the prior "What to Expect" books were broken down in, but it's so true that at this point, every baby blossoms differently and goes through things at a different pace. So it is EXTREMELY nice to have everything broken down by topic category instead for super easy reference. I'm not even kidding, I flipped it open to the middle of the book as soon as I got it and BAM! I instantly found an answer to one of the burning questions I've been wondering about. That right there was when I had my epiphany that this book really is exactly what I needed in my life at this point. It's so nice to just flip through and read up on different topics and I still get the same reassurance that I always have gotten out of reading these awesome books. I'm SO GLAD I made the decision to go ahead and buy it!! Even with the internet at our fingertips, there is no comparison to being able to sit down and read through a book full of up to date knowledgeable information, tips and tricks. I kept hearing "Oh you don't need those books" but fortunately I decided to give them a try anyway. I'm so glad I did! They are the best!!
This was a great book that I always found very helpful in alleviating anxiety. Reading about things as normal that you're bothered by from new parent ignorance is really calming and reassuring. My only regret was I was often behind in reading the material relevant to the month of age. I would then get to a key point and think, "man I wish I would have known this a couple months ago!" The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 5 star is that I wish the author would have had more references supporting the assertions.
I started to read Heidi's What to expect when you are expecting. Then religiously read what to expect first year, and this one. From knowing nothing about pregnancy and baby, I learned everything from the series. This is a great baby owner manual! The book gives insights of how to raise a baby on daily basis, also packed with information of what to expect / to watch out. It is also backed up by scientific research data and American pediatricians associations' recommendations. I was able to have sneak peeks of the future and be prepared. Would highly recommend it to all moms and dads.
Do not be fooled! This book is not structured like the First Year, and that's a drawback. Unlike the first year, which you can read month by month, this book is organized thematically. Because I have a toddler (which this book should know!), I don't have the luxury of reading the whole book at once to find out the answers to all problems. It still has great information, but there is so much I don't have time to get to yet. Wish it was the other way.....
I loved the “What to Expect the First Year†so I bought this one and since every kid is different it’s not based out on each month so that kind of makes it a little bit harder of the read in my opinion. It’s broken up into sections like: sleeping, behavior, how to discipline, etc. It’s just harder for me to want to read the whole thing so I find that I do like it it is very informative, however, I kind of use it like a dictionary rather than an actual read for me.
I thought this book contained crucial info, references and helpful guidance that I needed to get through my little one’s second year. It gave me a little peace of mind knowing I had it on hand to reference at any moment if I needed to.Unlike the first year, the second year is organized by categories, not by months old. For example: Sleeping / Feeding / PlayingPositive:I really loved the month to month style (first year), but with this book it was very convenient finding everything I needed to know on that one topic, all in one place. No searching around for it.Negative:I would read a particular topic, suddenly crucial milestones, behaviors, etc. are mentioned that were critical during a specific age range (that may have already passed)Overall, I didn’t like that this book’s layout is different from the first book but I bought it to have as a trusted guide and tried my best to re read topics often to make sure I wasn’t missing things.
I loved the last book (what to expect the first year) but hated this one. It felt much more opinionated. Even things like nursing, sleeping etc. all seemed to have strong biases about what is the “right way†when any parent / family knows all children are different and there is no “one way†to do anything...

This was the daily reading book we used when Narcotics Anonymous was first started in Australia in 1976. This book, and "Young, Sober and Free", together with the White Book, was our basic literature until the Basic Text was published.I got one copy from Hazelden when we started, and the group immediately adopted it as our daily reading resource. The sad thing is that over the years it has been forgotten, and now Narcotics Anonymous has the Just For Today daily reading book. However, this book is so good I think all recovering addicts should know about it.
Excellent for the not so religious folks. No bible verses or sappy BS. Short and simple passages which and not too much to digest at any one time.I have been using this one for years and have passed it along to many. Great daily read for the addict or alcoholic.
I love these books. I bought this for my sponsee as its right up her alley. I tend to need to tweak certain religious blips, but it’s easy to do and the rest is very well put and thought out. I highly recommend this to anyone in the program, religious to not.
The Day by Day book is something I read each day...in the morning before I start my day.It focuses on one particular subject each day and I work on that subject all through out the day.Each daythe book also has a question to answer...related to the subject that day.This question gives me something to think about and ponder as I answer it.Overall the book is all I hoped it would be.

So, I love the Sookie books. I do. She's so strong. She's wonderful. she's not perfectly thin and in shape. She's a size 10 and she's got flaws. Human flaws. And while I'm typically not a fan of vampire novels, I love these. The whole series. I love that she falls in and out of love. I love that she lets herself cry. I love that she gets scared and still triumphs and does the right thing and helps people.
Things are heating up!! Sookie’s world is definitely spinning out of control ever since she became entangled with Bill and the other Vampires. As the journey continues, Sookie begins to discover and uncover more about her will and level of endurance. The author has definitely changed my view of Eric. I like him more than Bill because there is no pretense about him whatsoever. Book 3 is filled with detail and connected dots that I did not get from the tv series. I’m looking forward to more in the stackhouse series.

In the first two novels, there's a big focus on Sookie's romantic life; vampires are still there, but they hang around more like ghastly Christmas ornaments in the background instead of playing a big role. Club Dead changes all of that.Sookie's relationship with Bill is on the rocks from the first page...well, the first line. "Bill was hunched over his computer when I let myself in his house." In the other books, Sookie and Bill have this vibrant connection; one could cut the sexual tension with a fang. Harris immediately sets a different tone with these thirteen words: the honeymoon is over.Sookie's world changes so much when Bill enters the picture that it's hard to remember that she is so inexperienced when it comes to love. Bill's aloofness (and subsequent problems throughout Club Dead) change Sookie's perception of not only him, but herself and men in general quite a bit. In short, Sookie's growing pains make the story. It's her transformation and development as a character that makes Club Dead stand from the others.New supernatural creatures are starting to rear their heads in Bon Temps, and I personally loved the different vibe of the werewolves. Vampires retain a different set of human characteristics than the weres do. Seeing the animalistic nature set against the cold and conniving vampires opens up not only a new debate for Sookie, but for me as a reader.I loved this installment of the Sookie series. Harris is opening so many doors for all of the characters, not only Sookie. My only complaint is Harris's writing tended to drop off a little more in Club Dead; instead of the wry humor and sarcasm I fell in love with in the first book, there's more of a straight, flat narrator. I miss the quirkiness of Sookie's first person POV.THE RATING:FOUR STARSWHY:- awesome character development- Sookie's personal life transitions connected well with the plot- only downside: writing fell off from the previous books
I found Sookie absolutely irritating and stupid beyond belief in this book. Her willingness to save Bill after such betrayal is just staggering to me. What he does to her at the end is absolutely reprehensible, yet she makes an excuse for him and lets it fly by. What a moron! Since when is she so super hot? I hate when characters become desirable to anyone in the book. That's not realistic. The vampires make sense because of her blood, but no one else should be drooling like they do. Sookie was stupid not to hook up with Alcide when she had the chance. He was stupid to hook up with Debbie. His sister must be stupid because she seems pretty clueless. Sookie has become a hypocrite. She puts down fangbangers, calling them pathetic because they have become addicted to sex with a vampire. Yet Bill can violate her in multiple ways and she still craves him as much as fangbanger would. In the first book, she whines about how she will never be able to cook breakfast for Bill. But she does this for Alcide, an attractive human man, someone she can comfortably date even with her "disability", and she still obsesses over Bill. The plot and action of this book were good, but I really didn't like Sookie in this one at all. I am actually surprised this book is rated so highly to be honest.
I bought the first 5 books in this series because I was a fan of the HBO show Trueblood. I was curious to see how closely the books followed the show. I can say that there are times when I can visual the show while I read these books. This is book 1 and I am on book 3 right now. Most of this first book was in season 1 of Trueblood, with a couple of very significant differences which I won't mention in case you've not seen the show. I like the characters a little better in the book - Sookie seems more decisive, Sam comes across as sexier, Bill less sexy and colder and more vampire like, and Eric his sexy self, interested in Sookie, but not figuring very largely in the story in this first book. But I think the show's Eric may have been given a bigger role as time went on because he was so popular (Eric was my fave vamp on the show). This will feel like old ground if you've seen the first season of Trueblood but I still enjoyed it. It's an easy read and you can finish the book in a couple of days, even just reading at night like I do.

Chris Doyle, a resident of Grenada, is a full time cruising guide author and spends over 6-months of the year sailing through the Caribbean, updating his books. He first sailed to Trinidad in the 70s and has been a strong supporter of TrinidadÂ’s move into the yacht services market. He built his sailing survey catamaran Ti Kanot in Trinidad and visits Trinidad at least twice a year, storing Ti Kanot at Power Boats in Chaguaramas when he travels abroad. He has been writing cruising guides since 1980 and in every area he covers, his books have become the best selling cruising guides. Jeff Fisher, a citizen of Grenada, often sails with Chris and has collaborated with him in two of his guides. Jeff has lots of Trinidad experience, having spent much time overseeing the construction of Ti Kanot. They sail together annually to Tobago for the Angostura Tobago Sail Week.

Pretty pictures but I found the recipes to be simple ones I already had in other books.
Every recipe James McNair has created is wonderful. You can make them for guests without trying them ahead of time!
This soft-cover book contains some wonderful chicken recipes (the chicken tamale pie is my personal favorite). And the photography alone makes you hungry.This is my first "McNair book," but it won't be my last!
I've had my copy of this book for almost 10 years, and I never get tired of the variety that it contains. Face it, we've all become more dependent upon lean protein like chicken, but for many of us, that can get pretty darn boring night after night. McNair has responded to this problem with a broad range of recipes that are guaranteed to please all tastes. (I've never run across the typo mentioned by a previous reviewer, but anyone who cooks on a regular basis should be able to spot such a misprint immediately, if it exists.) McNair's recipes have been able to withstand the test of time in my house, and I'm happily anticipating his next volume--FAVORITES!
This is one beautiful cookbook!! And it has wonderful recipes for many ways to cook chicken. I love Chronicle publications, especially the cookbooks, and this one is no exception. Great recipes from an expert chicken chef!! Thanks so much for sending quickly and well packaged. This one is for myself, but it would make a great gift, too!!
